tascam porta studio 2 question
« on: April 24, 2018, 10:17:18 AM »
alright so this is kind of a random maybe silly question. for years i used my porta twos no problem. but recently i have been having an odd problem of not being to get the second channel to work while the first channel is going. i found a work around the other day where i ran my sound out through the headphone jack and things seem to be working fine. but part of me still wants to figure out how to get the stereo out to work. i think maybe im using the wrong kind of stereo aux out cord. i have been using the orange and grey stereo and i think maybe thats where my problem is ...

also does any know or think there is a sound quality difference when something out of the headphones instead of the stereo out ?

thanks in advance for looking at said questions

Hi dustyhomie - I'm no tech, so I can't diagnose, but I *think* (edited) line out will sound better than the headphone jack, which goes through the headphone amp circuit.

What's the "orange and grey stereo"?  Here's your manual, see page 10... you need an RCA stereo cable for the line out:

Does the cable definitely work? I made this vid yesterday: https://youtu.be/djpWbsWRGRk

I'm not sure on the Porta 02s but I think on the 424s the headphone out and stereo out are the same...

So it looks like the headphones and monitor output is the same mix according to the manual... but now I am not sure if that means they are the same signal path...

Looks like on the Porta the Headphones and Line Out are separate.

Btw is the orange/gray cable a Hosa? I have one, too, it should just be a regular RCA cable. I use it along side a normally colored one, no problemo!
