424mkIII Tape Out Level
« on: December 07, 2018, 05:49:52 AM »
Hi there!

I've got my MKIII yesterday and when testing I've found out that everything is working OK (thanks God for that) but I've noticed that tape outputs 1-4 send a lower signal while recording. When playing back it is as hight as expected. Is that normal?

Just to make it clearer:
While recording on my YAMAHA MT4X  the tape outputs send out a signal as hot as the input signal but the M424KIII sends something a few dB lower than what is going in. Again, when playing back it is hight and faithful to the meter reading.

When looking at the MKIII block diagram the dbx section hides the signal path from/to the heads and makes difficult to know what to expect from the tape outputs while recording.

With the MT4X I'm used to take the tape outputs to a digital recorder for backup just in case of bad luck with some tape causing to loose a performance.

Thanks in advance!!!
